The village

The railroad arrived in 1855 and the village took its name in 1856. Its small center sits along Thompson's Station Road West next to the tracks. The 1863 Battle of Thompson's Station was fought here, and much of that land is now preserved.

Parks and the outdoors

  • Preservation Park, about 200 acres of former battlefield with trail markers and an overlook.
  • Sarah Benson Park, 27 acres with trails, pavilions and a stage for summer concerts.
  • The Nutro Dog Park and Greenway.

Getting around

US-31 (Columbia Pike) runs through town, and I-840 has an exit at US-31. Spring Hill's GM plant is a short drive south; Franklin is about 10 miles north.

Homes

Planned subdivisions such as Tollgate Village, Bridgemore Village and Fields of Canterbury, plus larger lots outside them, many on septic.

Utilities

Water from H.B.&T.S. Utility District and electric from Middle Tennessee Electric. Sewer depends on the subdivision.

Questions people ask

Is every home on sewer?

No. The town provides sewer to certain subdivisions; many larger lots use septic systems. For a home on septic, ask for the permit and any inspection history, and consider a septic inspection during your inspection period.

What is the property tax rate?

For 2026, Thompson's Station adds 0.103 per $100 assessed to Williamson County's 1.30, for 1.403 total. On a $600,000 home that's about $2,105 a year.
